Individual Consultation and Journey Free Coaching
Leaving one’s religion is a huge life transition, requiring a lot of adjustment and adaptation. Often people have intense feelings of confusion, grief, anxiety, and anger along with feelings of relief and liberation. Full recovery from Religious Trauma Syndrome can be difficult if the issues are not clear and you feel alone in the struggle.
At Journey Free we offer individual consultation and coaching sessions to help you navigate your changes and growth experiences. Recovering from a religious background is facilitated in large part by understanding what you have been through, gaining new information, and going through important developmental tasks.
We can help you if:
• You would like to understand your experiences with religion and take steps to recovery.
• You have left a restrictive religion and are having trouble with family relationships.
• You have a friend or family member who you believe has been harmed by religion and you need guidance.
• You are a helping professional with clients who are recovering from religious trauma and you need consultation.
Individual one-hour sessions are primarily with Marlene Winell. As a “recovering fundamentalist” herself, Dr. Winell has a personal understanding of religious commitment and deconversion. She also has over twenty years of experience working with people coming out of many dogmatic religious traditions, including evangelical and Pentecostal Christian, Mormon, Jehovah’s Witness, Christian Science, Seventh-Day Adventist, Scientology, Eastern groups, and other organizations of an authoritarian nature. She is a licensed psychologist, holds a doctorate in Human Development and Family Studies, and is the author of Leaving the Fold: A Guide for Former Fundamentalists and Others Leaving Their Religion.
New clients are invited to book an appointment here for a complimentary 20-minute discussion of concerns by Skype or phone. This would be followed by scheduling a full hour session. The fee for an hour-long session is $120.
In-person sessions are also available by appointment in Oakland, CA.
